When Lord Buddha was born, Hinduism was stuck in empty ritual. Lord Buddha's Arya Satya was an attempt to reinstate the noble way, the way of the arya, and by defeating the rigid Hindus, Dharma was returned to the Earth.
1000 years later, buddhism had degenerated into philosophical nihilism. Adi Shankara defeated the buddhist nihilists and Dharma was again restored.
